Ray Fisher: February 25th 2005

RAY FISHER was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and is a member of the renowned Scottish singing FISHER FAMILY.

SHE SANG WITH HER BROTHER ARCHIE FISHER, in the early days of the Revival of traditional music and song and set the standard for many of the singing duos and groups that followed.

Her main singing source was the tinker community - a nomadic or semi-nomadic people whose origins lay among the outlawed clans of bygone days. She literally sat at the knee of such famous exponents of the Scottish tradition as Jeannie Robertson, the Stewarts of Blair and Lizzie Higgins and was taught their wondrous techniques and repertoire at first hand.

RAY FISHER is a worthy carrier of the tradition with her stunning ballad interpretations, songs sad and humerous, plus a sprinkling of the best of the continuing contemporary songs of her native Scotland.

OCCASIONALLY SHE WORKS WITH HER SISTER, CILLA, but only rarely can they both get together with brother ARCHIE to form the FISHER FAMILY.

RAY has many radio and television appearances to he credit and can be heard on many current recordings - mainly CDs - recently recorded albums and re-issues of earlier releases.

RAY continues to travel worldwide to Festivals, seminars and concerts, and USA and Canada, Hong Kong and New Zealand have been her ports of call in recent years. Her abiding respect and love for the song and story of her homeland is without doubt, as can be heard wherever and whenever she sings.

If she stops singing the UK Government has promised to give her a pension. She is still trying to work that one out!!
