Venturing north from his native London Rob Johnson found fans aplenty in Yorkshire who filled the room to capacity. Singing all his own material, Rob's songs have a distinctive edge, particularly those of a political bent, the latest of which takes on the Iraqi war with Bush and Blair featuring.
“Polarises opinion, does Rob Johnson”, says Wayne. “Ben Elton is part of the Establishment now, but will Rob ever be?” With mock bitterness Rob brushes off his chances of visiting Buckingham Palace, and no wonder with his observations of the upper classes as they passed through Ascot Railway Station on race day, a caustic comment on the class system; the chorus: Workers 1, Toffs nil.
The audience wouldn't let him finish, and he obliged with an encore that stretched out to over a quarter of an hour. At the end of the night they were banging the tables and shouting out for more, warding off the MC from closing the night.
As one admirer put it clutching a CD - “so much talent in one man, unfair that is!”
“It's a great room to sing in and I'll come back again if you ask me” were Robs parting words ... so we did!
