Louis has returned to his native Tyneside to live after many years in the USA. It is nearly a couple of years since Louis was at the Grove, but on this occasion he is accompanied by his old friend Mike Waterson.
They simply want to indulge in the sheer pleasure of singing traditional songs, and I am sure that Mike can be induced to sing some of his own that are now well known - but there's bound to be a surprise or two.
Louis's is one of the best voices of English traditional song.
His
informative introductions serve only to enable us to appreciate the songs to
the full. There's bound to be a tale or two.
I remember a chat with Louis about writing and research into songs. Louis
looked me in the eye and quietly said, but what about the singing?
There
is no doubt where his priorities lie.
Whenever I see him, in mind or in person, Mike always sports a flat cap and a grin, with many a comment on life, and where he is not so far from concocting a song. From time to time he has come to the Grove accompanying another, but this time in his own right, along with Louis.
This is going to be a special evening of serious song spiced with wit, and quality singing.
