The company behind the Richard Thompson anthology released last year has released Reaching Back: the Life and Music of Steve Tilston. Featuring classic, rare, previously unreleased and new recordings, Reaching Back is a timely celebration of one of this country's finest performers.

Compiled with unprecedented access to Steve's own archives, the deluxe boxed-set comprises five full-length themed CDs featuring tracks contributed by Steve's many fellow musicians and admirers as well as Steve himself, finished off with a beautiful full-colour book with stories and reminiscences.

“it's a set you very probably need even if you don't think you do!... ” Netrhythms

“His music has a gently political undertone and his lyrics ask awkward questions without shouting out the answers, but above all he's a generous entertainer with an impressive back catalogue of popular songs.” Acoustic

Reaching Back was officially launched at a special event during Sidmouth Folk Week in early August.

Steve Tilston: June 13th 2008

Steve Tilston is the writer of classic songs like "The Slip Jigs and Reels", "The Naked Highwayman", and "Here’s to Tom Paine" (the latter being chosen by the Tom Paine Society of America as their theme song!). His songs have been recorded by Fairport Convention, Dolores Keane, The House Band, Peter Bellamy, North Cregg, Bob Fox, and many more.

Born in Liverpool and raised in the Midlands, Steve eventually saw the light and moved to Yorkshire. He has been quietly ploughing his own artistic furrow, turning out quality music since the early 70s, touring as guitarist with Ballet Rambert, as a member of Ship of Fools, with John Renbourn and more recently with WAZ!

Steve maintains his own site and mailing list at www.steve-tilston.co.uk. In addition to interesting and helpful information, the site also provides online sales of his recordings like ‘Such and Such’, ‘Live Hemistry’ and ‘The Greening Wind’.
