Witches of Elswick: June 25th 2004
Four energetic young women in performance who have made quite an impression on the folk scene.
They describe themselves ‘as an influx [to the folk scene] of charming young women singing beautiful songs ...and base their material on the traditional songs of these islands.’
They sing unaccompanied harmony ‘with attitude’ – a phrase they use in their own publicity. They did not let down an expectant audience. A lively evening of quality songs, good singing and oodles of banter, with a touch of innuendo.
The Witches brought their own distinctive interpretation of traditional song which attracted a good audience, and significantly so many of the same generation as themselves - so good to have energetic imput from this younger generation of folk enthusiasts.
