Northern lights formed in December 2002 and have since cut their first CD together in the early summer of 2003. Their music is a fusion of folk country and bluegrass with songs accompanied on guitar mandolin dulcimer banjo dobro and bass. Regulars at Otley Folk Club and Millfolk in Pool and Pannal, Anne Mark and Chris will also be appearing at Otley Folk Festival 2003 and at Otley Folk Club.
Chris Rawnsley plays, bass, guitar and banjo as well as having a fine baritone voice and singing low harmonies. Chris plays with Kentucky Mist as well as Northern Lights and is a keen bluegrass fan as Anne and Mark found at the Yorkshire Dales Bluegrass Festival this year with Chris playing into the wee small hours each night.
Anne Jackson has been on the Yorkshire folk scene since the late seventies and returned 12 years ago after a break to get married and have some children.Anne plays guitar, dulcimer and dobro as welll as having a fine voice for country with some lovely harmony singing given the chance. Below is the cover of Anne’s debut CD Elementary. Anne has also played with the FM band for the last ten years and as a founder member keeps the rest of them well organised.
Mark started playing guitar in 1990 when a neighbour called in by chance and proceeded to teach him how to play in 6 months. He has since played with The Country Tones, Early Doors, the Davey Young Band as well as doing solo gigs as a singer songwriter. Joining forces with Anne and Chris has meant his mandolin has come out of retirement. Mark plays Guitar, mandolin, Tenor banjo, bouzouki and dobro as well as singing lead and backing vocals.
