Ylem

Ylem last played with us in February 2006, and they have dropped in to share a few Singers Nights since then.

and the last time Kate brought her saxaphone!

They have become friends of Folk at the Grove, and their energetic sound always excites the atmosphere - and us!

Kate and Roddy

This is a new collaboration between Kate Badcock (flute and whistle), Roddy Johnston (fiddle, whistle and vocals) and Julian Marley (guitar).

The result is stunning - a European East meets West musical meltdown.

Here is an eclectic world - a brimming bounty of infectious tunes rich in the frenetic rhythms of Eastern Europe, coupled with the more familiar sounds of the west.

Macedonian, Bulgarian, klezma, Scottish, Breton music - even the occasional Scottish doric song - they're all there!

Here is, indeed, a musical equivalent to ylem ( the matter from which the elements were formed after the big bang) - a great fusion!
