A night of Yorkshire songs in the company of
Ray Padgett is the man from Barnsley, with a long interest in things Yorkshire, runs the Barnsley Folk Club and the Barnsley Weekend. We don't hear enough of Ray at the Grove, but Leeds is a bit far to get to from you know where!
Steve Gardham has researched Yorkshire songs for several years, and is playing a major role in securing the legacy of the song collector Trevor Huddleston.
Steve was also instrumental in setting up the Yorkshire Garland project in 2006. We will hear some of these songs tonight.
John Greaves We first got to know John Greaves at the Whitby Folk Festival singing with at the Farmers Concert in the Rifle Club, along with Will Noble and John Cocking. We are pleased to have John with us this evening, and he has contributed songs to the Yorkshire Garland project. (No image as yet)
Jim Potter, has a long association with the Grove, and has been singing Yorkshire songs for as long as he can remember. If you've been to the Grove before, you're more than likely to have heard a song or two.
Jim is bringing along Alma Wright, and Alma has a voice that is arresting to say the least! (but we don't have an image of Alma as yet)
Geoff Wood, who has been associated with Folk at the Grove since it was formed is of course a Yorkshireman, and you're bound to hear a tale or a ribald song from him!
The Yorkshire Garland Project

Next Special Night: Autumn 2008
BUT YOU MISSED THE
Yorkshire Song Special on May 30th 2008!
Yorkshire has a wealth of songs, and Leeds is within its borders, so we decided to have a night of Yorkshire songs. But there will be other regions represented too!
Tonight is the opportunity to meet up with these songs again with Steve Gardham, Ray Padgett, John Greaves and Jim Potter!
They have been instrumental in setting up Yorkshire Garland project, where you can find many of the traditional songs you may have lost contact with.
Folk at the Grove, of course, over many years have several singers who sing them such as Geoff Wood, Jim Potter and Alma Wright, and few more besides! They will be joining us too.
Singers of different origins have no fear. We will also be represented! An odd Geordie song or two, or Welsh, or Scottish or Irish!
Everybody is welcome, and we'll try and hear as many singers as possible in the course of the evening - This is the Grove way.
